Sunday 19th November 2017, 6.30pm
St John’s Church, Harpenden, AL5 1DJ
In the 450th anniversary year of Monteverdi’s birth, Amici Voices present his well-loved 1610 Vespers in a liturgical setting at St John’s Church, Southdown. Amici Voices bring both their distinctive one-voice-per-part formation to Monteverdi’s virtuosic writing, as well as joining Lacock Scholars for the larger choruses.
Originally formed from a group of young participants on Lacock Courses, The Lacock Scholars are dedicated to a cappella consort singing of Renaissance music and Gregorian plainsong, exploring the intimacy and technical sophistication vocal chamber music requires as a one and two per part consort.
Amici Voices is one of the most exciting young vocal ensembles in the UK today. Founded in Harpenden in 2012, they have given over 20 performances in the UK and Europe, delighting audiences with a wide range of repertoire from JS Bach and Schein, to Dunstable and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle.
For this concert they are joined by The English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble, one of the UK’s finest virtuoso period instrument ensembles with a host of distinguished recordings to its name.
This concert is generously supported by the Williams Church Music Trust.
